End of support for Internet Explorer agents
September 04, 2020
On March 31st, 2021, we’re ending support for all Internet Explorer agents. Between now and then, we’ll gradually disable the ability to create new IE agents for all user accounts. Your existing IE agents will be supported until March 31st, 2021, at which point all remaining IE agents in our system will be upgraded to Chromium.
Why are we discontinuing IE agents?
The Internet Explorer era is coming to an end – in order to provide the fastest and most complete web scraping experience, we’re moving all of our agents to Mozenda 7’s Chromium framework. Chromium agents feature enhanced reliability, integrated Chrome DevTools, and a 7x boost to agent run speed.
Chromium is just better – even Microsoft thinks so.
What do I need to do?
The majority of agents can be updated using the steps outlined here. To avoid any unforeseen complications or service interruptions, we recommend updating your IE agents as soon as possible. Here are a few differences between IE and Chrome that might make certain agents slightly trickier to upgrade.
- Chromium requires a modified XPath method when scraping XML
- Capturing inputs from a Set User Input action works differently in Chromium agents
- Case-insensitive XPath generated in IE sometimes doesn’t work in Chrome
- Chrome handles iframes differently than IE
If the above issues apply to any of your agents, don’t worry. We have solutions for each of these issues and we’re committed to making the transition as painless as possible.
